Hitchin and District Canine Society Open Show 2017 Critique

I would like to thank the Committee for inviting me to Judge. Thank you to my efficient Steward & to the exhibitors for supporting my entry. The surface of the show ring was a little uneven & this affected the movement of some of the exhibits.

Junior: (5)

1. Buckley's Aberlemno Athdara . 17 mth old Bitch, nicely proportioned head (preferred her head to 2) with darkish eye, well set dark neat ears & correct bite & far away expression. Good reach of neck into a well set shoulder. Good length of loin & fall away, tail well set. A little unsettled at times, but once on the move held top line. A shapely bitch, very nice on profile. Unfortunately in the challenge she did not move as well as I know she can.

2. Samways' Erpingham Magnas Cassacre. Nearly 17 mth old dog. Head a little untidy, which spoilt him, it made his head look wider than it was. He had a nice dark eye & good pigmentation, correct bite. He is developing a good chest, which should drop with maturity. I preferred the top line on 1. Once settled & on the move he strode out well; he was straight on going away & has a good broad back end.

Limit: (4)

1. Stuart & Holt's Ollandsheart Nancy 20mth old Bitch. Lovely far away expression, dark pigmentation, dark ears & correct bite. Feminine head with a lovely strong neck set into well laid shoulder. A well bodied, shapely dark coated bitch. Deep chest, good angulation with depth of brisket, and nice length from hip to hock. Curved croup & well set on tail. A little unsettled at first; however once on the move, held her topline, good reach & was easy active & true. (RBOB)

2. Trotman & Dockree's Stainlonan Rend of Penherald 3yr old Bitch. A pleasing head with dark eye, neat ears, correct bite & a good reach of neck into correct shoulder. Nice deep chest, correct front angulation. Good topline with rise over the loin. Showed a few uneven steps at the last minute, this may have been due to the even surface; which is a shame as I have seen her move with ease. Overall a very nice bitch, but movement let her down a little on the day.

Open: (5)

1. Trotman & Dockree's Stainlonan Pageant of Penherald A 3 yr old handsome Dog who has matured very nicely since I last saw him. A masculine head without being course. Dark keen eyes, with far away expression, correct bite, neat ears. An excellent strong neck into a good lay of shoulder & front angulation. Lovely depth of chest & pleasing bone. Good spring of rib & topline, nice fall away & well set tail. He has good width across hindquarters. Better feet than 2nd. He held his topline moving with purpose & good reach. He was straight coming, going & on profile. It was a pleasure to watch him moving in the challenge, easy active & true. I was very pleased to award him BOB.

2. Stuart & Holt's Ollandsheart Abraham A 20 mth old Dog who is maturing nicely. (nephew of 1st) Nice head with soft expression, correct bite, good ears. Lovely endearing temperament. Very nice bone & pleasing outline. Good front with well laid shoulder & depth of chest. Nice tuck up leading into strong well angulated hindquarters. He moved well & held his topline, however he carried his tail a little high as he was enjoying himself. Would have liked slightly tighter feet. There is a lot to like about him, one to watch.

Best Puppy (3)

Jansons' Nixophel Carnelian Red A 7mth old Dog. Nice head lovely acqualine nose, good expression, dark eyes & neat ears. Correct scissor bite. A good neck & developing a depth of chest. Lovely crisp coat. A good length from hip to hock. Lovely tight compact feet. I would have prefered a little more bone & width. Once settled & relaxed he moved with ease. Very well presented & handled. I will watch him with interest. Was pleased to award him BP
